Auto Data Inc., a provider of auto care software, has partnered with Computerized Information and Management Services, Inc. (CIMS) to enable Auto Data tire dealers to electronically comply with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) tire registration rules.
Currently, federal law requires tire dealers provide every customer with the means to register their tires, either by providing a tire registration form to the customer via post card or by completing the tire registration process electronically on behalf of the purchaser. In December 2015, President Obama signed legislation that gives the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) the authority to order NHTSA to only allow electronic tire registration. However, the law is still pending as it didn’t include a timeline for enforcement.
To prepare for the changing regulations, Auto Data now offers its tire dealers an interface to CIMS, enabling them to collect and enter DOT numbers and appropriate tire registration information at the point-of-sale. The data is then transmitted from the Auto Data software system to CIMS.
“Auto Data is excited to team up with CIMS to offer our customers a simple and effective tool to automatically register their DOT tire registration data. This hassle-free approach is just what many of our customers have been looking for as they begin to offer more tire related services,” said Craig Harris, president of Auto Data.
