Fire officials say an employee at a Maryland Transit Administration maintenance facility was critically injured when compressed gas cylinders in his truck exploded.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal said in a news release the explosion occurred about 8 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of the maintenance facility in Pikesville. Authorities say 64-year-old David J. Kotofski was moving supplies from his personal truck to his work truck when the explosion occurred.
Officials say Kotofski suffered severe injuries to his head, hands and chest. He was flown to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he is in critical condition.
The fire marshal's office, which is investigating, says the explosion also caused a fire that burned nine vehicles in the parking lot.
