Mr. Lube Canada has been holding their MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Weekend on the second weekend of May for more than 10 years, in tribute to the company’s founder, Cliff Giese, whose wife was diagnosed with the disease. In that time, they have raised more than $350,000 for both national and regional programs to fight MS.
The local Mr. Lube franchise has done their part to fight MS as well, and is holding another MS Weekend from May 8 to May 10. During the event, they will donate $5 from each oil change to the MS Society of Canada. “We’ll probably do at least 200 oil changes over the weekend, so we can expect to contribute more than $1,000 to the cause this year,” said Harley Jopling, owner of Mr. Lube.
MS is most devastating because it can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or other health factors. It attacks the body quickly and impacts vision, mobility, hearing and balance. “People in Peterborough really get behind this cause,” says Mr. Jopling. “We’ve had people walk in and let us know how thankful they are that we’re doing something like this and others who don’t need an oil change but come in and get one anyways just to help.”
“We’re proud to be doing this. Here at this franchise and nationwide, Mr. Lube wants to be a good corporate citizen and this is just one of the ways that we’re doing that.”
Mr. Lube is located at 708 Lansdowne Street West, in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. They are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Call 705-743-9407 with any questions about oil changes.
