Nov. 11, 2022—The Chevron Refinery in El Segundo, California, recently caught fire.
According to ABC 7, the fire occurred on Tuesday, November 8. Chevron spokesperson Jeff Wilson said the blaze started at 6:30 p.m. and it was inside the refinery. The cause of the fire is not certain, but the incident is currently under investigation. El Segundo and Manhattan Beach firefighters helped put out the flames.
The fire appears to have been isolated to the refinery. There was no threat to the surrounding community, and no injuries have been reported. Reuters reports that the refinery produces 20% of all motor vehicle fuels and 40% of the jet fuel consumed in southern California.
