Big Dan's Purchases 64-Year-Old Pronto Car Wash Center

April 12, 2022

Georgia-based Big Dan's Car Wash has purchased a 64-year-old center called Pronto Car Wash in St. Petersburg, Florida.

April 12, 2022—After serving its community since 1958, the Pronto Car Wash and Quik Lube center in St. Petersburg, Florida, will be taken over by a chain.

According to  The St. Pete Catalyst , the 1.6-acre car wash, detailing center and express lube will now carry the name of Big Dan's. Big Dan's Car Wash is family-run and operated and based out of Georgia. They currently operate over 20 express car washes.

“We are able to reuse the existing business and it has a great layout. It was a very strategic acquisition," said Jay Shadday, president of Big Dan’s Car Wash. "When we site-search, we look at the population and density, on 34th Street, we felt there was a strong enough population to support the center and competition.”

The new owners will demolish the oil change center and the self-serve car wash bay. They are planning on keeping Pronto's tunnel and iconic vintage sign. The demolition will allow for a reconfiguration of traffic flow and an opportunity to make some overall renovations to the site.

Pronto's last day in business is April 12.
