March 16, 2022—The average price of a gallon of gasoline spiked to a record $4.43 in the U.S., the Associated Press reports.

Supply concerns and disruption from the Russian invasion of Ukraine, though prices were already rising before the conflict. Some of the highest prices were seen in the San Francisco area at $5.79 per gallon.

This is a price record, but the 2008 price per gallon of $4.11 would actually be worth more today, the AP reports.
