March 15, 2022—The judge overseeing the legal challenge to Massachusetts' voter-approved Right to Repair law says he will not issue a decision this month.
Judge Douglas Woodlock issued a procedural order March 8 that said meeting the self-imposed March 7 deadline was not possible "as a result of unforeseen and unforeseeable circumstances." According to the order, the deadline has been extended by slightly more than a month to Friday, April 15, 2022.
According to a report from legal information hub JD Supra, the legal challenge has been underway since June 2021, when Woodlock held a week-long bench trial. The OEMs involved in the suit say there is no way they would be able to implement the "inter-operable, standardized and open-access platform" necessary to comply with the law in that amount of time.
