Oct. 19, 2021—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Monday launched an investigation into Ram's diesel-powered trucks following reports of fuel pump failures causing engines to stall or lose power.
The probe covers Ram 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 heavy-duty trucks with 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engines, according to a report from The Detroit News. The NHTSA has received 22 complaints and two field reports of engines stalling, and a review of those complaints found that affected engines stall out once over 25 mph.
The agency is opening an investigation into the problem and whether or not it constitutes a safety defect. In that instance, a recall would be issued.
