May 18, 2021—The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of major oil companies in a legal challenge brought by the city of Baltimore.Reuters reports that the 7-1 ruling means that BP, Exxon, Chevron, Shell, and others will not be liable in this case for monetary damages for their roles in climate change.The ruling came on a technicality that clarified whether or not the lower appeals court correctly analyzed a federal court as the venue for the case.Image: Shell
