Lordstown Motors Announces Recall, Ceases Production

Feb. 27, 2023

The new automaker announced a recall affecting 19 vehicles and has ceased production.

Feb. 27, 2023–Lordstown Motors has announced a recall on 19 vehicles “that are either in the hands of customers or being used internally,” Kelley Blue Book reports.

Though the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not released any information about a recall of the Endurance truck, the automaker said the safety issues are related to “a specific electrical connection issue that could result in a loss of propulsion while driving.”

Production on their Endurance truck has now ceased as the company seeks to find a solution, which could involve software updates or “part design modifications” and “retrofits,” the company said.

The company has seen some success, with the Endurance truck being nominated as a finalist for the North American Truck of the Year award, though it lost to Ford’s F-150 Lightning. Since Lordstown announced the recall and ceased production, however, their stock price has taken more than a 15% decrease.

The company has not shared a timeline for production resuming, having said they are “committed to doing the right thing by our customers and to resolve potential issues before resuming production.”
