Subaru has issued a recall of certain 2023 Subaru Ascent SUVs due to a tire defect causing the tires to suddenly lose air pressure, Torque News reports.

According to the NHTSA, 2023 Ascent SUVs with 20-inch wheels are affected by the recall. 20-inch tires are the standard for the 2023 Ascent Onyx Edition, Limited, Onyx Edition Limited, and Touring trims. 2023 Ascent vehicles with 18-inch tires are not included in the recall.

Subaru has said the issue stems from the tire mounting equipment having a misaligned bead arm, causing “excessive stress on the tire bead during mounting” and “possibly causing damage to the internal structure of the tire.”

The predicted number of affected vehicles is placed at 4,409. Letters for owners of recalled vehicles will be sent out on June 6, 2023. Subaru dealers will replace all four tires on the vehicle free of charge, with the old ones being disposed of.
