Aug. 10, 2023
Sam Mitchell is retiring from his role as CEO at Valvoline and is to be succeeded by the current President of Retail Services, Lori Flees.

Sam Mitchell will retire from his role as Chief Executive Officer at Valvoline and is to be succeeded by the current President of Retail Services Lori Flees, according to a press release.

Mitchell will be retiring from his role as CEO as well as from his position on the Board of Directors, taking effect on September 30, 2023.

Mitchell’s departure comes after 21 years with Valvoline, leading an IPO in 2016 and recently overseeing the restructuring and separation of the company’s Retail Services and Global Products businesses, Board of Directors Chairman Rich Freeland shared.

Flees will be taking over both of Mitchell’s roles as CEO and board member after working as the president of Valvoline retail services for the past year. During that time, Flees oversaw Valvoline’s operations and the company’s top and bottom-line growth.

As she fulfills her new position as CEO, Flees will continue to serve as President in tandem.

“I have had the privilege of working side by side with Lori for the past year,” stated Mitchell. “Throughout her career and in our time working together, she has proven to be a strategic thinker with a natural ability to unite teams and drive results.”
