The Auto Care Association (ACA) has collaborated with other industry groups to question the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles on its planned implementation of Public Act No. 23-40 new section 24, according to a press release.
The new section will require any repair shops that perform changes for oil, tires, or tubes to look up and see if the vehicle being worked on is subject to an open recall. If so, they then will have to give the customer a written notice informing them at the time of the repair or work being done.
Dealerships, on the other hand, do not appear to be subject to this same requirement.
ACA has argued that this would place unnecessary burdens on automotive aftermarket service and repair facility operators in the state of Connecticut.
“Auto manufacturers are responsible for the recalls and should be primarily responsible for providing notice to consumers about those recalls,” said Lisa Foshee, senior vice president of government affairs and general counsel at the Auto Care Association.
