AAA Alabama Offering VIN Etching Through October
AAA Alabama will be offering a free vehicle identification number (VIN) etching service this month, WBRC reports.
The service will be offered throughout the month of October as part of Car Care Month at all AAA Alabama branches. It will be free and is available to anyone, both members and non-members. An appointment must be made with a local AAA office to have the service performed.
The procedure will involve stenciling the number permanently onto all the windows of a vehicle, which AAA has claimed can curb vehicle theft by up to 65%. Additionally, there is between 60% and 85% chance of a VIN-etched vehicle being recovered and returned, as well as some insurance companies offering small discounts for having the VIN etched onto a vehicle.
“Having your vehicle VIN etched is a smart move,” said AAA Alabama Spokesperson Clay Ingram. “It could very well prevent your car from being stolen, plus it saves you money on your insurance premiums, in most cases. Call your local AAA office today to schedule your appointment for this free public service.”
