The API Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System program has opened application submissions for products meeting the API standards for SAE 0W-8 and SAE 0W-12 viscosity grades, according to a press release.
The Lubricants Group’s formal adoption of the two viscosity grades into the Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System Program was first announced in September.
Products that are eligible may only be licensed as API service category SP with Resource Conserving. All formulations are required to supply a complete candidate data package to confirm they meet necessary performance standards.
The recently released 22nd edition of API 1509 has been updated to include information on SAE 0W-8 and SAE 0W-12 in addition to several other changes. Page 5 of the text provides details on these updates.
