Data from CARFAX shows that one in five Americans are behind on necessary vehicle maintenance such as oil changes and tire rotations, according to a news release.
CARFAX has sourced its data from alerts and service records for the 35 million vehicles in the CARFAX Car Care program.
It revealed that 29% of Americans have put off having an oil change performed on their vehicle. In addition, 44% are past due to have their tires rotated.
The highest number of drivers shirking vehicle maintenance was found in Alaska, West Virginia, Maine, Rhode Island, and Mississippi. Conversely, the states that saw the highest rate of upkeep were Wisconsin, Minnesota, Utah, Nevada, and Virginia.
“Well-maintained vehicles last longer, cost owners less over time, and are worth more when it's time to sell them,” said CARFAX Car Care General Manager Paul Nadjarian. “Our free Car Care program helps vehicle owners stay on top of their maintenance schedule with helpful reminders.”
