A Midas in Granbury, Texas will be offering Veterans Day discounts as part of an idea conceived by the store manager–who is himself a veteran, Hood County News reports.
Recently hired store manager and veteran Bryan Blackheart first had the idea to hold a free oil change event for Veterans Day to help bring awareness to the work done and sacrifices made by veterans across the country. Blackheart served in the Army for nine years and the Air Force for 11.
On November 11, the shop will be offering free oil changes not exceeding $49.99 in value, with one oil change per family. It includes a maximum of five quarts of synthetic blend oil, with full synthetic oil and diesel oil costing extra.
It will be first-come, first-serve, with Blackheart expecting to service around 80 vehicles on the day of the promotion. To be eligible, veterans must be present at Midas Granbury, located at 1441 N. Plaza Drive, and present a valid photo ID.
Though store owner Robert Rangel said it will take a full team effort to service 80 vehicles this Saturday, he is happy to be helping his community. If the event goes well, he would like to do it again in the future.
“It isn't just veterans,” said Rangel. “If there's a family that needs help, I have the right and permission already to just go ahead and take care of it. I've done it already a few times where I'll either nix the bill completely and let them go or just (ask them) ‘How much can you afford?’ and that's what it will be. That right there is the difference between a straight corporation and a mom and pop (business).”
