188K Mustangs Recalled Over Brake Fluid Sensor

Nov. 13, 2023
An improperly configured brake fluid level sensor has caused the vehicles to fail in indicating low fluid levels.

Ford has recalled 2020-2023 Mustang vehicles due to issues with the brake fluid level sensor, Fox Business reports.

Around 187,900 vehicles will be included in the recall, which went into effect October 27. Recalled vehicles may fail to display visual warning indicators when brake fluid within the master cylinder brake fluid reservoir drops below recommended levels.

According to the automaker, the problem stems from an improperly configured sensor. The issue was first noted by one of the company’s customer service divisions in South Korea before teams with Ford confirmed it was present in 2020–2023 Mustangs.

No reports of crashes or injuries have been received. Ford has received 123 warranty claims that claim a loss of brake fluid, though no signs of an inoperative brake fluid level sensor were found, according to a report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Ford and Lincoln dealers will remedy the issue with a free software reconfiguration. Owners of affected vehicles will be made aware starting December 4.
