Oil Leaks and Brake Malfunctions Leads to 737K Fords Recalled
The latest Ford recalls are related to potential oil leaks and braking issues, reports AOL.
Two recent recalls issued by the automaker cover a total of 737,287 vehicles. The first of these recalls applies to certain 2020-2022 Ford Escapes and certain 2021-2022 Ford Bronco Sports–specifically, only model versions equipped with the 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder.
A total of 345,451 Escapes and Broncos have been recalled due to the engine oil separator housing being prone to cracking and leaking oil. This opens the possibility of oil leaking onto other parts of the engine and creating a fire risk.
Ford is not currently aware of any injuries or deaths occurring as a result of the problem. Ford dealers will be instructed to inspect the status of the oil separator and to replace it if need be.
The second recall, affecting 391,836 vehicles, is related to the trailer braking software in several SUVs and trucks, including the 2021-2022 Ford F-150, 2022 Ford Maverick, 2022 Ford Expedition, 2022 Lincoln Navigator, and several versions of the 2022 F-Series Super Duty.
This problem has been credited to a software error in the trailer brake program that leads to the trailer brake controller incorrectly applying the trailer brakes while towing a trailer with an electric or electric-over-hydraulic brake. To fix this issue, Ford dealers will implement new software in the truck.
Notices to vehicle owners impacted by both recalls will be sent out starting April 18.
