CBT News reports that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is escalating a two-year investigation into Honda vehicles over their automated emergency braking systems.
NHTSA announced this past Wednesday that it would be carrying out a comprehensive engineering analysis consisting mainly of Accord sedans and CR-V crossover SUVs over automated emergency braking systems spontaneously engaging for no reason.
The agency first opened a preliminary examination into the issue in February 2022. The decision to heighten the investigation was prompted by the substantial number of reports received since, which includes 2,876 consumer complaints, 93 injury incidents, and 47 crashes.
At first, the investigation focused on versions of the Honda CR-V and Accord from 2017 to 2019 and 2018 to 2019 model years, but has since expanded it to cover 2020 to 2022 models as well, growing from 1.7 million to around 3 million potentially affected vehicles.
