Raleigh Auto Shop Educates Drivers on Catalytic Converter Theft Prevention
An automotive maintenance shop in Raleigh, North Carolina, teamed up with the Raleigh Police Department and AAA to host an event educating drivers on how to prevent their catalytic converters from being stolen, reports WRAL News.
The free event took place at Car Care Maintenance & Repair this past Saturday, where attendees learned about how a catalytic converter is stolen, and what steps can be taken to protect themselves from the crime.
Additionally, those who brought in their vehicles were able to have a serial number etched onto the catalytic converter by the shop. Using an acid liquid that’s applied to the catalytic converter, a serial number registered by police is etched into the part’s surface as it grows hotter.
As noted by Scott Stillwell, the director at Car Care, it can take only minutes for a catalytic converter to be successfully stolen, and leave drivers with hefty bills to replace the component.
“We just want to help and provide whatever deterrent we can to help our customers and [the] communities we serve,” stated Stillwell.
