The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is warning of a trend among drivers that can render their airbags dangerous, reports ABC News.

NHTSA is instructing drivers to stop placing aftermarket decals on their steering wheels, following a second incident involving a driver’s airbags deploying.

In the most recent case, pieces of metal from the decal on the steering wheel were sent flying through the vehicle cabin, striking the driver in the face and neck. The first incident involved a decal covered in rhinestones hitting a driver in the face upon the airbags deploying, leading to them losing sight in one eye.

These decals typically stick onto a vehicle’s steering wheel to cover the logo in the center–but in the event of an airbag deploying, it can present a serious threat. NHTSA is now telling drivers to avoid applying these decals, and to remove any that they may currently have.
