Technicians with Grease Pig Lube and Tune will be educating the public on how to take care of their vehicles—and the environmental impact of neglecting to do so—through a series of workshops over the next month.
The workshops are in collaboration with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service, as part of the Northwest Arkansas Stormwater Education Program, which works to educate the public on how stormwater in urban areas can carry pollution to local bodies of water.
Free to the public, the workshops will be held within the shop at University Auto and Tire, which owner Will Helton operates alongside Grease Pig Lube and Tune, a quick lube chain in Fayetteville, Arkansas that Helton acquired last year.
Attendees will learn about basic car maintenance, what’s commonly overlooked, and what it can cost. They’ll learn about all the fluids, filters, and belts under the hood, as well as how to check fluids and tire pressure.
Additionally, workshop participants will also learn about how routine maintenance can prevent water pollution, by preventing leaking fluids from being carried by stormwater to local creeks.
At the end of the session, attendees will earn gifts including a $20 coupon for an oil change, a voucher for free diagnostic screening for leaking vehicles, a tire gauge, and an entry to win one of five free oil changes.
“It is good for people to know about their vehicles and how to keep them running properly, not only for their wallet but for the environment,” said Helton.
