Grease Pro Oil Change Location Meets Resistance in Lynn Haven, Florida

Oct. 24, 2024
Despite changes from the developers, locals are still unhappy about the proposed Grease Pro shop.

Despite pushback from locals, plans for a Grease Pro oil change facility in Lynn Haven, Florida, have received approval from city officials, reports WMBB News 13.

Though plans for the new shop had been first approved in Nov. 2023, it has since been delayed due to concerns from residents over traffic congestion, noise, and potential pollution of the groundwater.

In response, Lynn Haven Mayor Jesse Nelson said a list of requests were made for the developers, including removal of a 3,000-square-foot building to make way for an additional entrance that would reduce traffic overflow. Developers also shifted their stormwater pond to provide more protection for residents from noise and extra cars.

However, Lynn Haven residents crowded in city hall earlier this week to reaffirm their disapproval of the new shop.

“We have a problem in Lynn Haven and really in Bay County in general. Where developers have taken over and cities and counties are just bending over to them,” said resident Dack Detwiler. “I think residents, especially in this election season and everything like that, are upset.”

Residents’ complaints were compounded with the fact that another Grease Pro location already exists in Lynn Haven, just two and a half miles away from the corner of Harvard Boulevard and Highway 390, where the proposed second location would be.

For quick lube shops looking to open a new location, this is far from an uncommon problem, with more widely known brand names like Take 5 Oil Change and Grease Monkey having recently faced such incidents.

As long as the developer complies with city and state codes, though, Lynn Haven city officials stated that they have no grounds to order the project to cease.
