Chevrolet Silverado Owner Encounters Trouble After Transmission Flush
One owner of a Chevrolet Silverado was recently met with only strife upon having to receive maintenance for his truck, according to Torque News.
A recent post to the 2019–2025 Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra Owners Facebook group from Joel Coeler described an incident in which he took his 2021 Silverado with 5.3L with 8-speed and only 45k miles to the dealership. They did a transmission flush, but afterward, Coeler began experiencing even more issues than before.
“Honestly, it had kind of a slight clunk before but nothing out of the ordinary. But now it’s like missing shifts between first and second when accelerating, especially in turns—like pulling away from a stop,” described Coeler.
Having paid $400 for the service, Coeler asked the group what to do. He was met with multiple respondents who had experienced similar issues with their Silverado trucks.
“My 2019 8-speed had similar issues at 50k miles and ended up needing a new transmission,” told user Will Crosby. “Transmission fluid was replaced at 22k when they did a torque converter. Mine started acting up when it was cold, then got better, but it continued. After four days, I had it looked at.”
Coeler affirmed this estimation, sharing that it had dropped below freezing in his region of Tennessee recently.
Another user chimed in, suggesting that Coeler check his fluid level when warm, then add 20 ounces of Lubegard Platinum.
The Silverado’s 8-speed transmission has caused much strife for vehicle owners, with clunking, shuddering, and missed shifts often being a symptom. Chevrolet even issued a technical service bulletin in 2019 for the issue, with a specific fluid exchange procedure recommended to avoid torque converter shuddering.
