Motor Oil Spill From Valvoline Instant Oil Change Leads to Massive Cleanup
An extensive cleanup has followed a motor oil spill that occurred at a Valvoline Instant Oil Change in Wilson, North Carolina, according to Wilson Times.
On June 13, shortly after 10 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to handle a potential hazardous materials incident near 2861 Raleigh Road Parkway W.
According to Deputy Fire Chief James P. Campbell of Wilson Fire/Rescue Services, a large amount of motor oil was found in a stormwater control measure system located Varee Café and Precision Auto Care. Upon an investigation by Wilson Fire/Rescue Services and city of Wilson water resources crews, the source of the oil leak was identified as coming from a pipe in a nearby Valvoline Instant Oil Change.
A Valvoline representative sent hazmat clean-up companies out to the site in response, and Valvoline Corp. will be investigating how and why the leak occurred.
17 firefighters responded to the call, along with Wilson County EMS and the Wilson Police Department, and were on scene for around nine hours. The city of Wilson stormwater division and the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality will conduct follow-up mitigation inspections at the site in the future as well.
