Jiffy Lube of Indiana Unveils Store Mural by Local Artist in Indianapolis
Jiffy Lube of Indiana has launched the most recent installment of its Mural Project at its store in Indianapolis, reports NUVO.
Titled “Vibrant Fashionistas,” the mural is by local artist William Denton Ray, painted on the Jiffy Lube at 6275 N. Keystone Ave, in the Glendale neighborhood.
The mural is his second—Ray painted his first in 2018, also at the Glendale store. It had been painted over due to updates made at the facility, but Jiffy Lube recommissioned Ray to contribute his talents once again.
“All of my work is important to me, but this particular mural is close to where I live, so I am part of the community and culture that makes up Glendale / Clearwater / Broad Ripple,” shared Ray.
Jiffy Lube of Indiana originally started its Mural Project in 2016 as a solution to repeated graffiti at its store in Broad Ripple.
“After a while, it became tiresome painting the store over and over again,” said Jiffy Lube of Indiana spokesperson Lonnie Hinkle, chief operating officer. “Thankfully, someone suggested that we put a mural on that wall. And they stated that the taggers would respect the public art. And wouldn't you know it, the tagging stopped!”
Since then, the Mural Project has brought art to several Jiffy Lube locations throughout Central Indiana, and has even collaborated with the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Five other murals at Jiffy Lube stores in Indianapolis were also completed in 2018 as part of the project:
- Blend Creative Minds’ mural at 5444 W. 38th Street
- Carl Leck’s mural at 8175 Allisonville Road
- Craig Martin’s mural at 2 S. Earl Avenue
- Barbara Stahl’s mural at 1280 N. Green Street
- Shamira Wilson Young’s mural at 5630 N. Georgetown Road
