General Motors Switches Recommended Oil for Recalled 6.2-Liter V-8 Engines

General Motors has revised its oil recommendation for vehicles with the recalled L87 6.2-liter V-8 engines, now advising the use of Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 due to better availability and cost efficiency.

General Motors has announced it will be swapping its original recommended oil for vehicles with recalled L87 6.2-liter V-8 engines, reports Car and Driver.

GM first recommended that vehicle owners use Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 instead of the V-8's original 0W-20 weight oil after a major recall in April 2025. GM has altered that recommendation now, though, instead suggesting Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 in a new bulletin to dealers.

The reason for the change lies with more availability and lower prices GM believes will be accomplished through the use of Mobil 1 FS 0W-40.

“GM revised its bulletin to specify the use of Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 because of its wide availability, price point, and performance criteria that meet the needs of the recall remedy,” shared GM in a statement.
