Ford Investigates and Expands Recall After Repeated Windshield Wiper Failures
Ford has issued a recall for over 400,000 vehicles, expanding a previous recall having to do with faulty windshield wipers, reports Motor1.
Included in Ford’s recent recall is the 2021-2023 Ford Expedition, the 2022-2023 Ford Super Duty, and the 2021 to 2023 Lincoln Navigator. A total of 422,613 vehicles are covered by the recall.
The vehicles’ supplier, Trico, had provided wipers with improperly staked retention plates. These plates are responsible for securing the arm head to the wiper arm, and—if defective—could strip the splines on the wiper arms.
Some of these vehicle models were included in an April 2022 recall for the same issue. Then, in January 2026, Ford realized more vehicles were still being impacted after its 2022 recall.
A 2024 consent order with NHTSA requires that the automaker review previous recalls up to three years old. As part of this review, Ford found “elevated warranty claims for the Expedition and Navigator.” This prompted an investigation that was carried out through February, and concluded with Ford expanding its initial recall to include the Super Duty. The company also concluded the root cause of the issue after its investigation, in March.
A fix and inspection process is still under development, and the automaker will be replacing wipers that do not pass.
