Toyota Sends Bulletin Warning Dealers of Potential Motor Oil Shortage
A recent service bulletin from Toyota has recommended that dealers substitute certain oil weights in light of a looming motor oil shortage, according to The Drive.
That information comes from Costa Kapothanasis, CEO and founder of Costa Oil – 10 Minute Oil Change, who shared the first page of a recent “PANT” (Parts & Accessories News Today) bulletin sent to dealers by Toyota.
In the bulletin, Toyota said that its supplier, Exxonmobil, expects potential shortages of 0W-8 and 0W-16 oils, caused by what the company called “production and logistics constraints within the global petrochemical supply chain.”
The automaker has instructed its dealers to substitute heavier oils in the interim, and noted that the new guidelines are not to be used long-term, but rather for one service interval.
“TMNA recommends dealers follow these substitution guidelines one day per week for 0W-8 and one day every other week for 0W-16 or use the substitution percentages set forth below until further written notice,” read the bulletin.
According to Kapothanasis, motor oil shortages have already impacted certain weights at the retail level.
