LIQUI MOLY Introduces Advanced QR Code to Combat Counterfeiting
LIQUI MOLY will be launching a new QR code for its products to help curb counterfeits, as shared in a recent press release.
The company said it’s been providing QR codes on oil canister lids since as early as 2023 to safeguard items' traceability, enabling tracing of the product's origin on the basis of unique batch numbers.
However, since mid-May, LIQUI MOLY has replaced those QR codes with an optimized version, containing a green frame that cannot be copied. All oil canisters are now equipped with the new QR code.
The new QR code enables a digital, real-time check, enabling customers to scan the QR code and immediately verify whether the respective oil is a genuine LIQUI MOLY product. Customers are also provided with further information about the product and its application. If the scan exposes any kind of inconsistency, the code is transferred to the authentication app for further verification and to report the counterfeit product if needed.
“Like all lubricant manufacturers, we are constantly faced with the worldwide threat of counterfeit products and we take legal action whenever possible. The quality of our oils makes them a popular target,” said Marco Esser, marketing director at LIQUI MOLY.
“Counterfeit products cause financial losses, undermine customers' trust, as well as, in some cases, they lead to engine damage and can even put users' health at risk. We aim to take an active approach to this issue. The new, digital, real-time check intends to cut the number of counterfeit products as well as provide certainty for our business and private customers.”
