Take 5’s CMO Departs After 1 Year

Doug Zarkin, who joined the company as its first chief marketing officer in July 2025, confirmed on social media he will pursue his next career opportunity.

After one year as Take 5 Oil Change’s first chief marketing officer, Doug Zarkin announced on his LinkedIn account recently that he has left the company and will pursue his next role.

Zarkin’s departure from Take 5 was first reported on Monday by Adweek.

Zarkin arrived at Take 5 in July 2025, having most recently served as chief brand officer for Modern Performance and Recovery Brands, a wellness and fitness services company. At Take 5, he was tasked with leading the brand’s marketing strategy and execution, with plans to build Take 5’s story, gain deeper insight into the company’s customer experience, and bolster its data-driven approach.

During a NOLN Podcast appearance in August 2025, he discussed what appealed to him about joining Take 5, what he was able to carry from his experience in marketing for a health and wellness company, and how marketing would fit into Take 5’s efforts to grow its number of locations across the U.S.

“Well, in looking at my past roles in my career, I think the one thing that drew me to take on those assignments was the opportunity to really create brand love in categories that are extremely commoditized,” Zarkin told NOLN in his podcast interview. “And I say that because in the fast oil change business, the oil change category in many cases is the sea of sameness.

“In doing my diligence on Take 5 and on Driven Brands as a whole, one of the things that I've realized is they have a roster of challenger brands. Businesses and brands that are looking to redefine the category by the how, not just the what. And that's intoxicating for any brand leader to come in to try to capture, harness, and continue to push forward.”
