Sept. 11, 2019—Icahn Automotive announced that it's giving out 20 scholarships to students enrolled in post-secondary automotive technology programs.
Each scholarship is worth $2,500, according to a press release. The company says it's part of an ongoing effort to boost enrollment in automotive industry courses.
“The Icahn Automotive scholarship program is certainly an investment in the future, especially as we face such a large talent deficit in the skilled trades,” Icahn CEO Brian Kaner said in the release. “It’s our vision for young people to see the truly amazing potential of automotive service careers and we’re eager to support these students as they progress from the classroom to the service bay.”
Twelve of the scholarships were awarded based on "academics, character and a commitment to the automotive service industry," according to the release. The company awarded eight more as part of school facility investments, which was previously announced. The overall initiative is called "Race to 2026," which seeks to address a potential labor shortfall.
