June 21, 2019—A Pennsylvania fleet manager pleaded guilty to overcharging a school district by hundreds of thousands of dollars.
WNEP reports that Daniel Sansky of Jefferson Township entered his plea and will be sentenced for theft by deception in a case brought by the state's attorney general's office.
Through his shop, Danny's Auto Service, Sansky over-billed the Scranton School District for work on fleet vehicles. He also billed the school district for work done on personal vehicles of district employees, the news station reported. Sansky was the fleet manager from 2005 to 2017, and the school district was already on shaky financial footing at the time.
In one example, Sansky's shop billed the school district for 114 tires on a single garbage truck over 40 months.
While prosecutors say that Sansky likely took more money than the final settlement, a plea agreement calls for him to pay $31,000 to the district. The agreement also suggests a 23-month prison sentence, though he hasn't yet been formally sentenced.
