The large oil company is jumping into the EV business for the Formula E series.

Sept. 10, 2019—ExxonMobil is partnering with Porsche on its Formula E series car for the 2019-2020 season.

It's ExxonMobil's first foray into EV-powered motorsports, according to a press release. The company is providing "high-performance electric powertrain fluids" to Porsche.

"As Porsche begins to compete and demonstrate the capabilities of its electric vehicle technology, ExxonMobil is engineering a full suite of Mobil-branded lubricants to help the new Porsche Formula E team build on its legacy of racing success around the world. Motorsport provides the ultimate proving ground to continue to develop high-performance lubricants and fluids,” said Russ Green, ExxonMobil VP of finished lubricants, in the release.

The company says that the lubricants work to aid the vehicle's battery pack, particularly in improving electrical conductivity, cooling and material compatibility.
