Taking the Reins

About two-thirds of quick lube operators became owners between their mid-20s and mid-40s and by acquiring an existing facility, according to the latest NOLN Operator Survey Report.

As part of the 2026 NOLN Operator Survey, we explored when and by what means professionals became quick lube owners. Among survey participants who identified themselves as an owner, partner, or president, here is a breakdown of the ages at which they say they took the reins of a quick lube operation:

A majority of shop owners say their entry point into quick lube ownership came through assuming control of an existing facility, rather than building a new shop.
