Feb. 3, 2022—An auto shop owner in Houston was released from the hospital Monday after a carjacker attacked him and ran him over.
According to a report from KHOU, Tarfin Micu was working on a customer's Cadillac the morning of Jan. 14 when a carjacker broke in and got inside the vehicle. When he tried to open the door to get the thief out, Micu says he was punched in the face before the thief locked the door and ran him over while driving away. The thief hit a business next door before speeding off.
According to the report, Micu suffered damage to his back, hips, ribs and legs. His leg is still in a cast and he cannot walk, much less work in his shop.
Police have still not made an arrest as of Jan. 31, but video of a suspect has been released to the public in the hopes of making one quickly.
Tarfin came to the U.S. more than 30 years ago as a political refugee from Romania and opened Fixers Automotive in Houston Heights, where he has cemented himself as a beloved member of the community. A GoFundMe campaign started by his family has raised more than $75,000 as of Feb. 2.
