Honda Recalls Older CR-Vs in Some States

Honda has announced a recall of nearly 564,000 vehicles due to road salt causing frame rust and rear suspension parts detaching.

Honda has announced a recall of nearly 564,000 vehicles due to road salt causing frame rust and rear suspension parts detaching, AP News reports.

The recall applies to CR-Vs produced from 2007 through 2011 that “were sold or registered in states where salt is used to clear roads in the winter.” U.S. safety regulators said that the road salt can “accumulate and cause corrosion,” causing the rear trailing arm to fall off and drivers losing control.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that there are currently 61 consumer complaints in the United States, with no known death or injuries. The CR-Vs have also been recalled in Canada already.

Affected vehicles may be inspected by a dealer, who will “install a support brace or repair the rear frame if needed.” If damage to the frame is severe enough, Honda may make an offer to buy the vehicle from the driver.

Owners of affected vehicles can expect to receive letters beginning May 8.
