89K Jeeps Recalled for Steering Component Issues
A recall has been issued for 89,000 Jeep SUVs due to issues with the steering, Kelley Blue Book reports.
The recall applies to Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L SUVs from model years 2021 through 2023 after Jeep found that “an incorrectly assembled steering column intermediate shaft may disconnect from the u-joint, and result in a loss of steering control.”
According to the automaker, the problem is not defective parts, but parts that were put together incorrectly, estimated to have affected around 1% of the recalled vehicles. Signs of an incorrectly installed steering column will include difficulty in steering and strange noises when the vehicle is turning.
Jeep has received 15 warranty claims related to the problem, though no accidents or injuries have been reported. Dealers will examine recalled vehicles at no cost and will replace the intermediate shaft if necessary.
