Kia has announced a recall of nearly 320,000 vehicles due to an issue preventing the trunk from opening from the inside, USA Today reports.

The recall covers certain Rio, Optima, Optima Hybrid, and Optima Plug-in Hybrid vehicles, for a total of 319,436 vehicles recalled, according to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA said that the recalled vehicles do not meet the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, as someone being trapped in the vehicle’s trunk with no way to get out presents a serious risk.

Owners of recalled vehicles will receive notifications in the mail by October 19 and may take their vehicles to a Kia dealership to have the trunk latch base subassembly replaced for free.
