General Motors recently revealed that a couple of its upcoming models will leave behind physical dipsticks in favor of a digital oil level gauge, according to a report from The Drive.

The 2027 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra will be equipped with new engines, a 5.7-liter and a 6.6-liter. With this change will also come the elimination of a dipstick, replaced with digital measurement methods.

The news was first unearthed in a piece from The Verge, and upon The Drive reaching out to GM for clarification, the automaker confirmed that dipsticks would not be included with 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter V8 engines. However, 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder and 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engines will still include dipsticks.

GM is following the same trend other automakers are—including its largest truck competitor, Ram, which does not have a dipstick for its 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six.
