Staying Quick, but Not Getting Rushed

Quick lube operators weigh in on the average bay time for customer visits to their shops.

Legendary college basketball coach John Wooden was known for telling his players to “be quick, but don’t hurry.”

Wooden’s message was meant to drive home the importance of moving swiftly and with purpose, but not at the expense of the quality of your performance. Fast oil change shops try to maintain a similar balance when vehicles pull into their bays.

Just how quick are your shop’s quick lube services? We asked participants in its 2025 NOLN Operator Survey to share with us the average bay time at their facilities. Here’s a breakdown of what they told us:

10 min or less
