August 4, 2021—Toyota will discontinue the Avalon following the 2022 model year.
According to a report from Car and Driver, Toyota confirmed it would cease production on the full-sized sedan in August 2022. The Avalon has been available in the U.S. since 1994 and is currently in its fifth generation.
The Avalon is the latest in the large sedan segment to fall by the wayside—the competing Chevy Impala, Hyundai Azera, Kia Cadenza and Ford Taurus have all been canceled recently. Only the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Nissan Maxima remain in the segment.
After production ends next fall, Toyota said it will continue to sell leftover inventory through the end of the 2022 calendar year.
