March 8, 2023–Tata Motors, the manufacturer that owns Jaguar Land Rover, has issued a recall for 6,644 vehicles due to an issue with oil potentially leaking into the engine’s air intake system, Motor Safety reports.

The recall covers 2023 models of the Land Rover Defender, Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover Velar.

The issue stems from the vehicle’s cam carrier. The company cites a supplier error that led to faulty cam carriers, with channels inside of them being too small for oil to pass through, causing a blockage. This causes oil to leak either outside of the vehicle, or into the engine’s air intake, posing a fire hazard.

This is another of several other recalls Tata Motors has experienced, such as an April 2022 recall of 14,812 vehicles, followed by an August 2022 recall of 4,927 SUVs, with another 5,297 Jaguars recalled that same month.

Those with affected vehicles will receive a letter concerning the recall by March 31. Dealers are to replace the faulty cam carriers with the correct ones at no charge to vehicle owners.
