Volkswagen Recalls 143K Atlas Vehicles

Volkswagen has announced a recall of over 143,000 vehicles due to an issue with the front passenger airbag sensors not operating correctly.

Volkswagen has announced a recall of over 143,000 vehicles due to an issue with the front passenger airbag sensors not operating correctly, according to Consumer Reports.

The recall applies to “some 2018 through 2021 Atlas and 2020 Atlas Cross Sport SUVs.” It’s noted that the recall does not apply to all Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles, so owners are encouraged to check their vehicle's identification number if they believe they may be affected.

The recall was issued over a wiring fault, causing a “short circuit” and the passenger airbag failing to deploy in the event of a crash. Volkswagen has advised that nobody should use the front passenger seat.

Those with affected vehicles may see “a warning light and an error message in the instrument panel behind the steering wheel, along with a warning sound.” Anyone who sees these signs in their vehicle is urged to head straight to a Volkswagen dealer, though there is currently no solution announced for the issue.
