Major Recall Affects Lincoln MKX and Ford Edge SUVs Due to Brake System Flaws

The recall impacts 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX and 2015-2018 Ford Edge SUVs, with a defect in the rear brake system's flexible hose that may rupture and leak brake fluid.

Ford has issued a recall for over 500,000 vehicles due to a brake fluid leak, reports CBS News.

Impacted by the recall are 2016 to 2018 Lincoln MKX midsize luxury SUVs and 2015 to 2018 Edge SUVs.

The issue lies with a flexible hose in the cars' rear brake system, which is prone to rupturing and leaking. In this event, drivers will notice increased stopping distance. If the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir becomes low, it will also trigger the red brake fluid warning indicator light to come on, said Ford in a letter to dealers.

Owners of impacted vehicles will be notified beginning early September, but it could be a while before an issue is released. A remedy is still under development, and isn’t expected to be available until April.
